The Hokan Value
Hokan is a British design company that manufactures and sells unique and innovative products for the kitchen and home. Our ethos is firmly based in sustainable and efficient living and our mission is to provide items for our customers that have been designed to save food, money and time. We believe that tackling food waste, providing zero-plastic, and making things that last a lifetime can be fun, attractive and practical.We hope that this appeals to you as much as it does to us. Once started it is difficult to stop, and changing the way we use and buy, becomes a meaningful and satisfying way to live. Saving time, money and food, and of course our environment.
Our Story
Hokan Bowls are designed by Alistair Donald. Cooking for two sons he was forced to consider the amount of food waste in the kitchen and became determined to live less wastefully and more efficiently in the kitchen. So he replaced plastic storage containers, and leaning towers of bowls and saucers, by designing this new stackable, stoneware range, Hokan Bowls.
Launched exclusively in The Conran Shop they have enjoyed an enthusiastic welcome from the press, cooks and customers alike. In the UK, 7 million tonnes of edible food is thrown away each year. Fortunately this has become an important issue with newspapers, television, and celebrities alike and who are now willing to tackle the problem.
Hokan Limited is determined to continue to produce great products of design and function, that reflect our companies ethos to save time, money and food through conscientious cooking and efficient living.
Our Sustainable Ethos
Hokan is a brand with a determination to be a positive part of our world and environment, and it is with this at the forefront of our minds that we have designed and produce Hokan Bowls. We hope that the design of these bowls means that our customers, and us!, can save food, prepare food more
efficiently, with the least amount of waste. We also think that our Hokan’s are fit for many other uses in the kitchen and that they fulfil the needs of many utensils, saving on kitchen space and unnecessary purchases. Hokan’s stoneware construction make them robust enough for any kitchen and are intended to be a truly lifetime purchase to love and cherish.
We use cardboard packaging that is recycled and limits the amount of colour and printed matter. We reuse the cartons that the stock is shipped in from factory to warehouse and repurpose them to be sent onward with our customers order inside. Collections of deliveries are made in one drop off or pick up to minimise the the actuation of our couriers transport service.
We work alongside our partners to produce Hokan Bowls and operate our Hokan Limited company on the understanding that they have the same values too. We are confident that all of our partners are aligned with our wishes and do so with their own sustainable and ethical values.
Our Hokan Family
Hokan doesn’t have that many staff and as such are a tight little family that cares and nurtures each other,. Our partners are on the whole much larger organisations but when deciding on working with them we check them out and have meetings with them to ensure they have the same values of diversity and fairness as ourselves and keep our collaboration with them healthy and on-going.
Our Future
We have many new ideas and designs in the pipeline and we are constantly mocking up and testing new product ideas. We are a small business so these things must be taken with small steps but rest assured we will be adding to the Hokan product lines.
